Critical: Between Life and Death
A Global Spotlight on Life-Saving Work
We’re proud to feature in the Netflix documentary Critical: Between Life and Death. The series, from the makers of the award-winning 24 Hours in A&E, offers exclusive access to London’s Major Trauma System and follows frontline NHS and emergency teams as they respond to some of the most serious, life-threatening incidents across London and the South East.
Filmed over 21 days with more than 40 embedded cameras across hospitals, ambulance services, and air ambulance charities, the series goes over the shoulder and under the scalpel to reveal not only the life-saving interventions but also the personal and emotional factors facing those working on the frontline where every second counts.
Our inclusion in the series reflects the vital role we play within the capital’s Major Trauma System and the world-class care we deliver to critically ill and injured patients. We’re proud to be one of the pre-hospital care providers supporting this system, bringing advanced interventions to the scene when every second counts.
“The series powerfully highlights the essential role of pre-hospital care in the patient’s journey and the dedication of all those involved across the trauma system.”
Dr Tony Joy, EHAAT Medical Director

The Team Behind the Response
Hear from some of the pre-hospital care doctors and critical care paramedics who treated Grace, Isaac and Jack and what it means to them to be there for patients in the vital early stages of their care.

“For us as a HEMS team, having a helicopter is invaluable because time really does matter. If we can knock 30 seconds off the time we get to scene, that’s a matter of life or death.”

“There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing you’re part of a team that can make such a difference, so quickly, when people need it most.”

James Samouelle
“It’s a privilege to support patients and colleagues by delivering hospital-level care at the roadside when it’s needed most.”
