The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Development Board brings together dedicated supporters and community leaders who champion our most ambitious philanthropic projects- from enhancing critical care medicine to expanding our reach into local communities. 

The Development Board mission is simple: secure the transformational funding that keeps our helicopters flying, our crews ready, and our communities safer every day. One of the key priorities is CPR Smart™ – the charity’s initiative to equip thousands of young people with the confidence and skills to save a life. 

Whether you want to support a key project, tour one of our airbases, or even join the Development Board, there are numerous inspiring ways to get involved. Together, we can create extraordinary impact across Essex and Hertfordshire.

Meet the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Development Board

     Mark Bevan, CVO, DL – Chair

Mark retired in 2023 as a Managing Director at Coutts & Co where he spent 30 years and for the last 15 years he was responsible for the bank’s connection with the Royal family.
He is Hon Treasurer to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and is on the Development Committee of Prostate Cancer UK, among other things. Mark has lived in Essex since 1988 and is married with two adult daughters and increasing numbers of grandchildren.

 

     Jonathan Trower

Jonathan Trower is an experienced leader with a career spanning investment banking, restructuring, and charitable governance, currently serving as Chairman of DC Advisory.
A former Army officer and Cambridge graduate, he has held senior roles and is currently Chair of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and brings deep strategic and operational expertise across sectors.

 

     Claire Smith

Claire is a lawyer by background and has been a Trustee for EHAAT since 2017. She first became involved after EHAAT attended her daughter Milli in an emergency situation when she was just 22 hours old.
Claire is passionate about protecting the long-term legacy of the service for generations to come, with the work of the development board being central to that, as EHAAT looks to expand on the lifesaving work it does in Essex and Hertfordshire.

 

     Rachel Sporborg

Rachel Sporborg is an award-winning garden and landscape designer based in Hertfordshire, known for her innovative, sustainable designs and her Platinum-winning ‘Free Thinking’ border at the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair.
With a background in law and distinctions from the London College of Garden Design and Inchbald, she brings analytical precision and creative flair to every project

 

     Simon Brice  

Simon Brice is a fifth generation Essex farmer who served as the 841st High Sheriff of Essex, focusing his year in office on key issues including domestic abuse, modern slavery and rural crime.
Proudly Essex-born and community-minded, he worked closely with local voluntary organisations and emergency services, championing initiatives that strengthen safety and support across the county.

 

     Chris Philpot

Chris Philpot is a longstanding Essex farmer and director at Barleylands, dedicated to educating young people about food, farming and the countryside through hands-on learning experiences.
His award-winning work includes developing Barleylands’ Discovery Barn and leading innovative outdoor education programmes that reach thousands of children each year.

 

   Simon Tilley

Simon Tilley is a Hertfordshire-based property developer and longstanding director of Leatherfield Developments Ltd, overseeing land and real estate projects from.
He has also contributed to the local charitable sector through previous directorships, including the Hertfordshire Community Foundation.
