Robert (Bob) Bassey, 71 from Radlett is taking on The Thames Bridge Ultra Trek on Saturday September 12th to raise money for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance as part of Air Ambulance Week (7-13 September), a nationwide celebration of the country’s 21 air ambulance charities.

Bob will trek 25km across the Capital over 16 historic bridges. When he’s not practicing, Bob has been running a series of fundraising events in Phillimore Community Centre over the summer with a raffle, bingo and quiz all lined up.

The money raised will support Essex & Herts Air Ambulance to continue its vital, life-saving service. Last year, teams were dispatched on 2,491 missions, with each mission costing around £2,800. On average the charity attends 1,900 patients a year, from road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests.

Bob has already raised well over £1,200 and hopes to secure even more by the time of the event. Anyone wanting to donate, should visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/robert-bassey-2?newPage=true

Bob, who has thrown himself into a number of volunteer and fundraising roles since retiring three years ago, said:

“Essex & Herts Air Ambulance is the charity that comes out when you need them most. I’m so aware that they need every penny we can raise for them so they can continue to support people in their darkest hour. I’m proud to do my bit to support such important work”.

Charlotte Evans, Senior Fundraising Coordinator at Essex & Herts Air Ambulance said:

“We are so impressed by Bob’s efforts and are so grateful to him for helping keep us front of mind during Air Ambulance Week. The money he’s raising is invaluable to us. As a charity we rely solely on donations to keep our helicopters flying so efforts like this make all the difference.”
