Marathon fundraisers urge runners to support your local Air Ambulance

Fundraisers who ran The Virgin London Marathon for us have encouraged those who have a ballot place for 2017 to do the same.

Alec Lodge and Gael Harvey were among 16 others from across Essex and Hertfordshire who donned their running shoes on April 24th this year and raised thousands for your local life-saving Charity.

Now they are urging others to do the same to keep the helicopters flying to patients in critical need across the region.

Gael Harvey’s 16-year-old daughter was airlifted to Royal London Hospital with serious head injuries in 2014 when she was hit by a motorcycle while walking to school.

I can’t think of a better cause to support than the Air Ambulance, as it is a registered Charity which receives no Government funding. I had already decided to run the Cambridge Half Marathon when Helen was critically injured and raised nearly £3,000. Thanks to the generosity of my friends, family and business contacts, I raised nearly £4,000 during the London Marathon.” Gael, of High Garrett

Alec Lodge of Dunmow had only started running a couple of years before he decided to apply for a place on the London Marathon 2016. His uncle had been trampled by cows in 2015 and was treated by us at the scene.

The Air Ambulance landed in a field nearby but couldn’t move him for a couple of hours because of his injuries. He was taken to Addenbrookes where he stayed for two months.

The Virgin London Marathon is such a prestigious event and we were thrilled so many people chose to run for us in 2016. We would be delighted to have the support of anyone who has secured their own place in the 2017 run and wants to fundraise for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.” Angela Byrne, Herts Fundraising & Events Administrator at EHAAT

We are currently selecting runners for our Gold Bond places, of which there were five last year, from a pool of applications. The names of the successful runners will be revealed soon.
