Pies, Ice Buckets and Big Laughs Help Raise Over £600

Whispers Wine Bar in Halstead was the scene of soggy staff and serious generosity on Saturday 24th May, as local supporters pulled out all the stops to raise £606.99 for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT).

The fun-filled fundraiser, organised by bar owner Debbie Day and her daughter Leanne Preston, was inspired by a suggestion from Whispers staff member Thomas John. The idea? Let the public vote on which members of the Whispers team would receive a cream pie to the face, or an ice-cold soaking.

All ten staff members volunteered to take part, with customers paying £2 per vote throughout the month leading up to the event. The two “winners” with the most votes received their pie and ice bucket fate at the hands of EHAAT’s own crew.

Although they didn’t win the vote, Debbie and the bar’s chef Martin bravely volunteered to take the icy plunge themselves, provided onlookers chipped in to top up the fundraising pot.

A representative from Whispers , said:
“It was such a laugh, and we were blown away by the generosity of everyone who donated. Having the EHAAT crew there made it even more special, we’re proud to support the incredible work they do.”

Whispers Wine Bar are no strangers to community fundraising, regularly backing local causes including EHAAT and Halstead Fire Station. They’ll be continuing their support for Team Mission – a group of fundraising customers– with more events planned for September 2025, including a golf day and a raffle.

Every pound raised helps keep EHAAT’s life-saving service operational, delivering critical care to patients across Essex, Hertfordshire, and surrounding areas.
