Opening of New Charity Shop in Stevenage

On Wednesday 3rd July, we were excited to have our new charity shop in Stevenage officially opened by CEO, Jane Gurney and Alistair Hopper, a former patient who has benefitted directly from the life-saving service the air ambulance provides.

Joining Jane and Alistair, were Councillor Jim Brown, Mayor of Stevenage, along with Mayoress Penny Schenkel, John Rees, Mayor of Royston, and members from Stevenage Grange Rotary Club, EHAAT trustees Claire Smith and Roy Marfleet, dedicated volunteers, and staff, who all gathered outside the shop, located at 14 The Forum, where the ribbon was cut to mark the occasion.

Alistair’s story is a poignant reminder of EHAAT’s critical mission. In 2023, Alistair from Stevenage, suffered a cardiac arrest during the morning school run. Thanks to a bystander’s quick action and EHAAT’s rapid response, Alistair received immediate care and the team’s swift decision to transfer him to Lister Hospital was pivotal in his remarkable recovery.

Jane Gurney, EHAAT CEO said, “This new shop is more than just a place to find a bargain or give your pre-loved items a second chance; it’s a testament to the commitment of the Stevenage community and a significant stride forward in our mission to save lives.”

The Stevenage community has a rich history of supporting EHAAT, from the launch of the Herts Air Ambulance at Fairlands Valley Park in 2008, to raising an impressive £200,000 last year through donations to its Donation Centre located at Access Business Park. The new shop continues this legacy, offering a range of pre-loved items from clothes and shoes to toys, electronics, and bric-a-brac, all at bargain prices.

Stevenage Shop Manager, Angela Beatty, and Assistant Manager Tracy Ives, are eager to expand their team of volunteers. Volunteering at the shop offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a life-saving cause. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to visit the shop and speak with the team.
