Sharing Life-Saving Skills: EHAAT Delivers CPR Smart sessions at Ocado Group, Hatfield

At Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT), our mission extends far beyond the life-saving critical care we deliver through our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). Prevention, education, and empowering communities are central to what we do.

Following a generous donation to EHAAT’s CPR Smart programme – a school-based initiative educating children in life-saving CPR, we were proud to bring our CPR Smart programme to the Ocado Group headquarters in Hatfield, giving their colleagues the opportunity to gain vital life-saving skills.

From the moment we arrived, the Ocado Group team showed enthusiasm and genuine interest in learning how they could make a difference in the crucial first moments of a cardiac arrest. The session brought together staff from across the organisation, all eager to gain confidence in performing CPR and using a defibrillator.

Hands-On CPR Smart Training

During the session, we guided participants through:

  • How to recognise the signs of a cardiac arrest
  • When and how to call for emergency help
  • Correct chest compression techniques
  • The simple, step-by-step use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • The chain of survival, and how early CPR significantly improves outcomes

For many, it was their first time performing CPR—and by the end, they were delivering strong, effective compressions with the understanding that every second counts, and anyone can save a life.

We are grateful to everyone at Ocado Group for their support to our lifesaving charity and embracing the CPR Smart programme so wholeheartedly. Their commitment to supporting community safety and staff wellbeing was evident throughout the session, and we thrilled to have trained over 80 staff members.

As a charity that receives no direct government funding, support from organisations and individuals is vital to ensuring we can continue delivering advanced critical care and essential education across Essex & Hertfordshire.

We hope to continue our partnership with Ocado Group and bringing CPR Smart training to even more schools. Together, we can create a world where more people feel confident to step forward, act, and help save a life.
