Volunteering at EHAAT –  Scott Spencer

Retail volunteer

Matt and I got involved with Essex & Herts Air Ambulance because we wanted to raise money for charity. We did some research locally and found out that EHAAT needed our help.

We have been involved since 2019 when we held boot sales and gave 25% of the takings to EHAAT.

In 2021 Matt was made redundant, getting his next job in a hospital. Being part-time he wanted something else, so he became a volunteer for EHAAT in our local charity shop and I decided to join as well.

Later in 2021 the Shop Manager job became available. Matt considered applying but decided against it as it didn’t fit with his job in the hospital. He was really pleased when subsequently the Assistant Shop Manager vacancy was posted and delighted when he was offered the job. I really enjoy helping Matt in his role and helping the charity by volunteering.

I like working on the till the most, although I don’t mind doing other stuff as well. We are a great team in the shop and all muck in to help. I love coming up with new ideas to assist the management team with their jobs, I promise I don’t try to take over!

I enjoyed a day dressed up as Pilot Pete. I went for a walk around Braintree, with Jane Morton our Volunteer Manager. We were advertising the Braintree £1 outlet store and trying to recruit new volunteers to help as we could really do with more support in the shop.

I am hoping to do many more years volunteering for this wonderful charity and who knows I may end up working for it too!
