Join thousands of motorcycle riders in raising money for EHAAT

With several hundred bikers already pre-registered for one of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s (EHAAT) flagship fundraising events, riders are being encouraged to join up now to avoid disappointment.

On Sunday 10th September, thousands of motorcycle riders are expected to take part in EHAAT’s annual Motorcycle Run and Harwich Family Fun Day.

Radio Essex Host, Martin Day, will be leading the convoy of riders departing from EHAAT’s airbase at North Weald Airfield. The run finishes sixty miles later at The Quay in Harwich, where Martin will then join fellow presenter, Paul Jason, in co-hosting the free Family Fun Day taking place on The Green.

There is an added bonus this year, for anyone signing up to take part in the event before pre-registration closes on Friday 1st September. If applicants apply online and add a ‘free prize draw’ ticket to their basket along with their bike registration, they will get the chance of winning one of three great prizes that have been generously donated. Prizes include: Four weekend tickets to the Brands Hatch British Superbike Championship Showdown taking place 13th-15th October 2023, a £100 voucher for motorcycle event photographer and official MCR Harwich photographer, ‘Get A Pic’, and a £100 voucher to use in the ‘ART Rider Gear’ shop in Laindon Essex.

Emma Barker, Head of Income Generation at EHAAT, is delighted with the response so far, but wants to encourage bikers to go that little bit further and open their own fundraising pages.

She said: This year we are celebrating 25 years of running our free life-saving emergency medical service, delivering advanced clinical care usually seen only in the hospital emergency department. But with no National Lottery funding and with very limited government support, it is the incredible donations that we receive from our supporters in our local community that keeps us flying. The past 25 years is not our achievement – it is the achievement of the people of Essex and Hertfordshire, and we are grateful to you all.

“Continuing this support, we are encouraging every rider who pre-registers to join us on the Motorcycle Run, to set up a fundraising page or download a paper page from our website – because every contribution helps.

“And for the first time this year, I am delighted to announce that we are giving a prize to the biggest fundraiser for the event. Donated by Flight426, one lucky person will be given a unique opportunity – as well as the thrill of a lifetime – a 30-minute flight for two in a Westland Wasp, a 1960’s Royal Navy Anti-submarine helicopter.”

For over two decades, the annual Motorcycle Run and Harwich Family Fun Day has developed into a really special community day. It has something for everyone; games, live music, exhibitors, stalls and refreshments, and this year Tendring-based band, ‘The Vicounts’, will be performing as part of the day’s entertainment.

This year’s event is supported by EHAAT’s long-term partner, global logistics company Woodland Group, as well as T-shirt sponsors Colchester Kawasaki, Hythe Hill Motorcycles, Pass Bike, Brayleys, and Templant.

Bikers can pre-register online to book their place by visiting https://ehaat.org/get-involved/events/motorcycle-run/.
