After unveiling their new Agusta Westland 169 (AW169) at Audley End House and Gardens on Sunday, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance are taking the new helicopter across the two counties to thank the public who raised the funds for the Air Ambulance.

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s Heli Tour kicked off with visits to Chelmsford, Brentwood and Stevenage and will culminate on Sunday 2nd July at the Charity’s Summer Cycle Ride event.

After three years of searching for the most suitable new aircraft, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance unveiled their Agusta Westland 169 to the public on 25th June 2017.
The Agusta Westland 169 is the Charity’s first purchased helicopter (all previous aircraft were leased), with the majority of the £6.5 million provided by public donations. As a result, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance wanted to make sure that as many supporters as possible could share in the excitement of the Charity’s new fleet before it goes into operation.
Using free promotional flying hours from Specialist Aviation Services, the Charity is able to fly and land the AW169 across Essex and Hertfordshire to thank their supporters and continue to raise awareness of the Charity’s life-saving service. Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s clinical function will not be affected by this, as the Agusta Westland 169 will not be operational until July 2017, when all training and conversion has been carried out. The Charity’s two helicopter operation will continue to provide life-saving care throughout this period. Please note, the helicopter are visiting many schools throughout the week, most of which are closed locations.
