Eleanor’s Story

Eleanor was involved in a road traffic collision on her motorbike whilst at work. Helimed 55 attended to Eleanor, who had sustained a number of significant injuries, including to both arms. The team were able to administer analgesia as well as antibiotics on the scene, before flying her to a Major Trauma Centre for further treatment. Due to the nature of the injuries sustained, Eleanor underwent two operations on her arm. She also sustained significant nerve damage, requiring nine months of extensive physiotherapy.  

One of the main goals in her recovery was to get back to running and she has achieved a Parkrun personal best as well as completing her 100^th park run.

“I have been running my whole adult life and it is part of who I am. Getting back to running was so important for my mental health, my independence and socially. Ultimately by getting back to running I believe I sped up my overall recovery.”
