On 25 March 2018, over 4,000 runners will take on the Colchester Half Marathon in Essex to raise over £60k directly and over £250k indirectly through runners own efforts for good causes.

The day promises to be an amazing mass-participation event bringing together local runners, businesses and the community. Runners can enjoy this half marathon set in the historical town of Colchester while making a positive difference to charities in the area.

Among them are the chosen charity partners for the year, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance who will receive 75% of the proceeds and MS-UK who will receive 25%.

Every year Essex & Herts Air Ambulance are called out to over 1,000 life-threatening incidents in Essex, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. Unlike NHS emergency services, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance is a registered Charity providing a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for the critically ill and injured.

They provide specialist Pre-hospital Care Doctors and Critical Care Paramedics, as well as an extended service via dedicated Rapid Response Vehicles.

Sabi Stafford, Essex Fundraising Manager from Essex & Herts Air Ambulance says

“It costs approximately £2,700 for each mission, which equates to £6.5 million every year to cover all charitable and aircraft operational costs.

We rely entirely upon the generosity and goodwill of individuals, businesses and groups such as this within the counties to continue our life-saving work and are so grateful to be chosen as a beneficiary for the second year running.”

MS-UK was established in 1993, and is a small national charity dedicated to empowering people with multiple sclerosis to make the most of today, and live life to the full. MS-UK has a bimonthly magazine, New Pathways, a national helpline and a wellness centre based on the Hythe in Colchester called Josephs Court.

Josephs Court has over 180 clients in the local area and has a range of specialised equipment designed to create strength and muscle tone and improve the general fitness of people affected by MS.

“To be charity partner for the next two years is amazing news. It’s such a well-established local event which thousands of people enjoy taking part in whilst supporting local charities. We rely on the generous support of our fundraisers to make our work possible, and we’re delighted that we’ll be able to continue supporting people in Colchester affected by multiple sclerosis,” says Jill Purcell, Fundraising Manager from MS-UK.

The race will start and finish at Weston Homes Community Stadium, and the headline sponsor is Griffin Chapman Chartered Accountants. Runners can apply online at www.colchesterhalfmarathon.co.uk.

Colchester Half Marathon is organised by a number of the local Round Table members. With over 400 clubs in Britain and Ireland, Round Table encourages men to do more for themselves and for their communities. Round Table was founded in the UK in 1927 and is the world’s largest male only member organisation, with Associations in more than 50 countries.
