Following an ask for artistic-minded people to submit their ideas, a mural recognising the work of local life-saving charity Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) has taken up its position on the sea wall at Concord Beach on Canvey Island.

The eight metre image was designed by Paul Johnson, a member of the community arts and health programme, Open Arts Essex, and painted by the resident artist for Friends of Concord Beach, Dawn Hart.

The Environment Agency kindly provided EHAAT with an opportunity to fill a space on the sea wall at Concord Beach with a suitable image earlier this year, and the charity was keen to involve the local community in the design process.

The Mayor of Castlepoint Borough Council, Cllr Mrs Patricia Haunts, together with Deputy Mayor and Ward Member for Canvey Island West, Cllr Mrs Jay Bissett, took time to visit the beach, so they could get a closer view of the finished mural.

Pam Withrington, Fundraising and Marketing Director at EHAAT said: “This has provided us with a great opportunity, to involve the local community in celebrating the work of our charity in a location where it can be seen by large numbers of people. We are thankful to Friends of Concord Beach, the Environment Agency and Open Arts Essex for making it happen, and of course the originator of the design Paul Johnson.”
