People in Canvey learnt vital CPR skills with a free training session from the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance team held at the charity’s Canvey Island shop on Furtherwick Road.

Thirteen local residents learnt the basics from Critical Care Paramedic Adam Carr and CPR Smart clinician Laura Knowles. As part of its mission to deliver life-saving pre-hospital care to critically ill or injured patients, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance aims to equip everyone across Essex and Hertfordshire with critical life-saving skills.

Each year, around 35,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the UK, with survival rates below 10%. Every minute without CPR reduces the chance of survival by a further 10%, making early intervention critical.

Critical Care Paramedic Adam Carr, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s Clinical Community Lead, said:

“At Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, we are committed to empowering as many people as possible with the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR. We’re so impressed with the people who gave up their time to come down. Every person who learns CPR is another person with the potential to save a life.”

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance is also encouraging people in Canvey to consider volunteering at the Furtherwick Road shop. Amy Lorenz, shop manager in Canvey describes volunteering as a brilliant way of gaining invaluable work experience especially for young people, boosting confidence and making friends.
