Walkers from Watford are holding an afternoon tea with a difference next month to support the work of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT).

Nordic Walking Watford are having a `Car Boot Café’ at the end of their walk in London Colney on June 30th as part of EHAAT’s `A Very British Afternoon Tea’.

Organiser Tracy Reeve said the group are looking forward to their event: “Nordic Walking is really sociable, and we started getting together for tea and coffee at the end of walks. In places where there’s no café I take along hot drinks and cakes and serve them from the back of the car – the `Car Boot Café’.

“After the walks people stay and chat over a drink before heading off home. We decided to nominate a charity that we could support throughout the year and when we voted on it Essex & Herts Air Ambulance was the most popular choice. It does amazing work and any of us could need the Charity’s help at any time.

“Having our own `A Very British Afternoon Tea’ seemed like an appropriate thing to do. Group members will make a donation to the Air Ambulance on the day.”

Natasha Robertson, Herts Fundraising Manager at EHAAT said: “Hertfordshire has some lovely countryside to walk in and everyone loves a cup of tea and piece of cake. What a great idea to combine a long walk followed by an afternoon tea in support of your local life-saving charity?

“We are really grateful to Tracy and her fellow walkers for making Essex & Herts Air Ambulance their nominated charity for 2018 and hope they have an enjoyable walk followed by some well-deserved tea and cakes.”

Nordic Walking, first developed in the 1930s in Finland by the national cross country skiing squad in the snowless summer months.

Tracy Reeve explained: “Walkers use poles to propel themselves along. You walk faster and work harder. Around ninety percent of the body’s muscles are involved. It’s great for anyone, no matter what their level of walking.
